When I booked the keynote speech for the National Association of REALTORS® “Communication Director’s Institute,” I was ecstatic for two reasons:
It was my first keynote speech for a national conference.
My mom has been a REALTOR® for decades and I share her passion for real estate.
At one point I even got my real estate license, but decided to pursue my filmmaking career, which was just at the turning point of becoming an actual career possibility.
But I’ve always kept real estate in the back of my head, fantasizing about what my life would have been like if I went the other route.
I thought this speech would give me a good opportunity to mix two of my passions: real estate and storytelling.
In fact, the coordinator told me that during a survey, the two most asked about topics were “digital storytelling” and “video.”
I was the person for the job. And I couldn’t wait.
Plus, this conference wasn’t for REALTORS® themselves, but the Communication Directors of their associations. I’d be speaking to marketers! These were my people.
I gave the speech and a workshop the next day and the response was incredible.
I spent hours in one-on-one conversations with attendees, learning about their struggles and the struggles of their members.
This week’s guest is Britni Clark, one of the attendees I spoke to at CDI, and the social media and marketing manager for the Virginia Realtors Association.
Britni is fortunate enough to work with a large association that has a dedicated person to social media -- it’s clear why she’s the person for the job.
SHE GETS IT.
She understands how to use the tools we have access to in order to tell stories and connect with communities.
